Epic Games invests in “Horizon Chase Turbo” developer Aquiris

Epic Games has entered into another partnership within the industry. This time, developer Fortnite shook hands with Brazilian developer Aquiris, who created the rather brilliant polygonal runner Horizon Chase Turbo.

This is the latest deal for the studio, following the acquisition of Harmonix last year. This partnership is a bit different though, as Epic is simply investing in the business rather than catching them for their own. The two studios have also entered into a multi-game publishing deal for some unannounced cross-platform games. This means we could well see more Aquiris games on the Switch.

Mauricio Longoni, CEO of Aquiris, was extremely positive about the deal:

“We’re thrilled to partner with Epic Games. It’s a strong endorsement of what Aquiris has built so far, and we can’t wait to show the world what we’re working on together. The publishing power of Epic and its close collaboration with us on technology, business intelligence, and product development will help us improve the quality and reach of our titles.

Hector Sanchez, who heads Epic Games’ third-party publishing business, will join the Brazilian company’s board of directors, praised the studio:

“Aquiris not only has a keen eye for quality gaming experiences, but has also demonstrated great artistic and technical abilities through the use of Unreal Engine in its products. We are honored to have this opportunity to strengthen our relationship. with one of the premier studios in the growing and important Latin American development scene.

Probably the best known game from Aquiris is Wonderbox: the creator of adventures, an adventure game where you can build, solve puzzles and have role-playing adventures through four different campaigns. There is also a Discovery Mode where players can create and share their own games that they created in Wonderbox. The game is currently only available on Apple devicesbut its penchant for experimentation and brilliant visuals would make it the perfect game to port to Switch.

Let us know what you think of the offer or if you want to see Wonderbox or any other Aquiris games coming to Switch in the comments!
