The Outer Worlds, the upcoming Sci-Fi role-playing game developed by Obsidian and published by Private Division, is now less than two months away from its scheduled release date (October 25).
During last weekend’s PAX West 2019, the developers shared a new trailer that offers a deeper look at life in Halcyon Colony, from the bustling communities of Terra 2 to the dangerous frontiers of Monarch.
The Outer Worlds will be available on PC (only on the Epic Games Store for the first year), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game has also been confirmed to be heading to the Nintendo Switch, although that will happen sometime later.
Lost in transit while on a colonizer ship bound for the farthest end of the galaxy, you awaken decades later to find yourself in the midst of a deep plot threatening to destroy the colony of Halcyon. As you explore the outer reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation of the colony, you are the unplanned variable.
• Player-Driven RPG Story: In Obsidian tradition, how you approach The Outer Worlds is up to you. Your choices don’t just affect how the story develops; but your character build, accompanying stories, and endgame scenarios.
• You can have flaws, in a good way: What’s new in The Outer Worlds is the idea of flaws. A compelling hero is made by the flaws they carry with them. When you play The Outer Worlds, the game tracks your experience to find what you’re not particularly good at. Keep getting attacked by Raptidons? Taking the Raptiphobia Flaw gives you a debuff when fighting vicious creatures, but immediately rewards you with an additional character advantage. This optional approach to the game helps you create the character you want while exploring Halcyon.
• Lead your companions: On your journey through the furthest colony, you will encounter a host of characters who will want to join your crew. Armed with unique abilities, these companions all have their own missions, motivations, and ideals. It’s up to you to help them achieve their goals, or turn them to your own ends.
• Explore the Corporate Colony: Halcyon is a colony on the edge of the galaxy owned and operated by a board of directors. They control everything… except the alien monsters left behind when the terraforming of the colony’s two planets didn’t go exactly as planned. Find your ship, build your crew, and explore colonies, space stations, and other intriguing locations across Halcyon.
